If you were tasked to write a dictionary definition in answering the questions: what is teaching, and what is learning - what would you write? When you sit down and think about it, they’re not easy questions! Is there actually a definitive answer?

I recall reading somewhere that teaching and learning is the “planting of tomorrow’s innovative ideas today”. It’s a secular answer, but when you unpack it, there’s a lot that can be said about it and much that we can agree with; nevertheless, this description is found wanting! We cannot isolate teaching and learning from our Reformed identity. Waterink clearly formulated it as: The forming of man into an independent personality serving God according to his Word, able and willing to employ all his God-given talents to the honor of God and for the well-being of his fellow creatures, in every area of life in which man is placed by God.

As educators at Cornerstone Christian, Reformed Education is our chief joy. Together with the children, we journey with them in sharing the wonderful riches of God’s covenant faithfulness from generation to generation. As your child’s teacher, it’s my sincere delight to join you in “telling the generation to come the praises of the Lord, and His strength and His wondrous works that He has done."

Welcome to another exciting school year at Cornerstone Christian School. May the Lord bless all our endeavors so that the seed of the covenant may grow up responding to God’s covenant of grace by offering themselves as living sacrifices in joy and thankfulness.

    Blessings
